We consider ourselves struggling. Not rich, not poor, life was
much better before the "special period."
8. How many hours/week does each family member work?
Standard in country is 40 hours/week.
Euripides: retired
Angelina: retired
Eulina: 40 hours/week, but was recently laid off because of
special period.
Ramon: 72 hours/week
Montecristi: 60 hours/week
Sandra: 40 hours/week, but currently on maternity leave.
9. Are you satisfied with your jobs? What do you
like/dislike about them?
Montecristi has always worked construction and likes it. He
likes to work and does not like it when he cannot work.
10. How much money does each family member earn/month?
Montecristi earns approximately 285 pesos (+30) for seniority and overproduction bonuses.
The state used to guarantee certain things. Now we must
spend, find and invest to acquire what is needed.
11. What are your total expenses each month for:
Food: Unpredictable.
Household goods: Minimum to 0.
12. What is your family's energy consumption and cost?
Electricity: 240-250 kilowatts monthly at 9 cents/kilowatt.
Water: 100 liters free per person, if you go over, you pay.
13. How much waste do you generate; and how does your
family dispose of its waste?
Our waste gets picked up by the state.
